Choosing the Right Direction for Your Main Entrance

The main door is where energy, light and people enter a home, so Vastu treats it as the single most important opening in the plan.

What to look for

• North, north-east and east entrances are traditionally considered the most supportive.
• Keep the area in front of the door clean, well lit and free of clutter or shoe piles.
• The main door should be the largest door in the house and open inwards, clockwise.

If your entrance faces a difficult direction

You rarely need to rebuild. Lighting, a threshold strip, colour on the door frame and a clear path to the living area can balance most entrances. A consultant will look at the exact degree of the door before suggesting anything.
